Ascalon Foothills

This is the very last area of Ascalon I have to explore, and luckily for me the smallest as well!
I entered the Ascalon Foothills through Diessa Lowlands. When you head west and leave this zone, you enter into Traveler's Vale. This is the only area connecting Ascalon with the Northern Shiverpeaks. After fighting some hydras and stone elementals I was greeted by this grim-looking face on an arch way.

Dragon's Gullet

Immediately after exploring Flame Temple Corridor, I continued on into Dragon’s Gullet with my friend Erolin.
This area is only accessible by going through Diessa Lowland and then Flame Temple Corridor. I wonder what this used to be like before the Searing? Was there a city, small town, or a temple?
Here we can see several hydra amidst a partially submerged mural of the goddess Dwyana. And as you can tell, this area has a lot of tar pools.

Flame Temple Corridor

My good friend and native Ascalonian, Erolin is aiding me in my exploration of the Flame Temple Corridor and Dragon’s gullet today. We left from Grendich Courthouse, and trekked through Diessa Lowlands to found our way to the Flame Temple Corridor’s entry.

Upon entering we found several Ascalon Strikers. Erolin and I tried to aid them, but they were no match for the charr and quickly fell.

I asked our monk if she could return life into their bodies, but she was unable to. So we buried them and prayed for the gods to watch over their remaining loved ones.

Diessa Lowlands

Before departing from Grendich Courthouse, I made sure that I was fully prepared for what lay waiting for me in the Diessa Lowlands. You see, I have heard a lot bad things about this area. First of all it is a huge area, and on top of that it is filled with hundreds of hostile creatures. Secondly, it is very easy to be spotted by multiple patrolling enemies at once.
After finding out what sort of monsters I will be fighting and their general tactics, I setup my own plans on how to fight them and set out into the Diessa Lowlands.

The Breach

Today’s exploration starts from the outpost, Piken Square. Before venturing out I had a good chat with the folks inside to learn about the area. Firstly, they suggested not exploring it at all… because the charr are too dangerous. Secondly, that if one were to venture out that I should be very well equipped.

I don’t see what the big deal is! Sure charr are dangerous, but could this area be any worse than others in Ascalon? I think not…

Once I set foot outside, I immediately spotted some charr next to these interesting purple flowers. After taking care of the charr, I knelt down to inspect the flowers. They are quite lovely, but you cannot pick up their scent at all. The air is filled with the smell of death and decay.

It’s moments like this when I begin to understand how Ascalonians must feel.

Eastern Frontier

For this expedition, I’m starting from the Ruins of Surmia. I thought about leaving from the Frontier Gate, but I really wanted to get the grawl out of the way first.
To make things easier, one of my sidekicks knew a curse known as Spinal Shivers and I used arrows enchanted with cold magic.
Anyhow, shortly after entering the Eastern Frontier I spotted a statue of Lyssa amidst patrols of grawl. The statue itself is in good condition even though the surrounding pillars are not. I wonder who takes care of these statues anyway. Perhaps they are protected by the gods themselves.

Pockmark Flats

Starting from Serenity Temple, I continued on into Pockmark Flats.
Here, the most distinguishing features are the mass amounts of crystals that rained down from the Searing. When traveling through here, you will never lose sight of these. Even though they came about from a catastrophe, I find them beautiful.

Regent Valley

After exploring Old Ascalon, I planned a trip to Regent Valley from Fort Ranik. This area is completely devoid of formidable opponents (known as “bosses”). Perhaps the monsters in this area are just too weak to rise up and become a threat.
Just as I entered the area, I spotted some Charr rushing towards us with Sergeant Brannen in pursuit. I readied my bow and aimed at the Charr Ash Walker first. Fighting along side with the sergeant, these savages were no match for us! After the battle I wished him well and moved on.

Old Ascalon

My journey started in Old Ascalon, accompanied by my trusted sidekicks.
Let me start out by explaining what has befallen these lands.
People remember Ascalon in terms of before and after the Searing; an event in which The Charr (savage beasts) laid siege to Ascalon. Before all of this, it was a peaceful kingdom with carefree citizens protected by the Great Northern Wall. When the Charr overtook Ascalon, the wall fell and crystals rained down and scorched everything.
What we have today is a land in ruin, overrun with ferocious beasts and humans cowering in the remnants of old cities. Who knows what will become of Ascalon in the years ahead… will they ever restore their once great kingdom? Only time will tell.
