Bounty Hunting: Inquisitor Bauer

Just as with the last inquisitor bounty, my friends Solorian D. and N. Squirrel accompanied me on this quest. The reward for killing these foes is much higher than the usual amount of 4 to 15 War Supplies that I receive for killing weaker threats. I have not seen Inquisitor Bauer in a long time, so we prepared for the worst and set out for Scoundrel’s Rise.

Shadow's Passage

I will take time to explain the events that occurred in Vizunah Square, since this area is incredibly small. Master Togo first asked me to help him meet Brother Mhenlo in Vizunah Square to find out more on the plague. Foreign adventurers also joined in with myself and other graduates of the monastery. Nearing the end of our mission, I had no idea that Shiro would emerge and kill us all! Then the envoys resurrected us when he had left and explained to us how to become closer to the stars and defeat him. After all of this, we were transported to the Dragon’s Throat outpost.

Bounty Hunting: Inquisitor Lashona

Today when I checked the bounties, the names of two inquisitors were listed: Lashona and Bauer. The reward for killing these fiends is much higher than the others, and to make sure I got the job done I brought two friends along to help me. Hopefully N. Squirrel and Solorian D. are up for the challenge we’ll face. I hope that after killing these inquisitors that it won’t be long before Confessor Issiah is listed.

Bounty Hunting: Week 1

Due to the amount of bounties Princess Salma has posted, I decided to write about the next seven encounters in one diary entry. It is nice to be able to actually fight the White Mantle and Peacekeeper bosses. After saving the world from major threats I have been pretty bored. Working on my epic diary: A Tyrian Odyssey takes up most of my time, but I am always yearning for combat.

The Undercity

As of latel, I am beginning to worry about the sanity of my friends. Why would anyone willingly offer to help me explore the Undercity? My friends Catfish J., Morganna D., Xia H. D. and Vengance H. followed me into one of Cantha’s Tyria’s worst smelling areas.

Wajjun Bazaar

Lately people have been showing up very often to help me explore Kaineng City. I spotted Catifsh J., Claire P., and Harlequin H. waiting for me in the marketplace, along with some new faces: J.J.W. and Pang T.T. However I don’t know if so many people would be so excited to follow me into the Underworld or perhaps the Fissure of Woe. I’m hoping to delve into those at the end of my exploration of Cantha.

I am getting ahead of myself. For now I will show my friends around Wajjun Bazaar and teach some gang members a lesson.

Kaineng Docks

When students on Shing Jea Monastery graduate and return to the mainland, they arrive in Kaineng Docks. Foreigners can also gain access to Shing Jea Island by speaking to First Mate Xiang.

Bukdek Byway

When foreigners come to Cantha, Bukdek Byway is the first large explorable area they visit. Slums make up the majority of houses here, with a few nicer ones belonging to a small population of well off citizens. Due to so many people living close together, the plague has swept through Kaineng City. Two prominent Assassin gangs: the Jade Brotherhood and the Am Fah can be found here, adding to the mayhem already caused by the plague. Later on when I reach their strongholds, I will go into more depth about their history. For now I will explore Bukdek Byway with the help of an old friend: Luky, and six new friends: Catfish J, Xia H. D., Snuffles T., Harlequin H.

Helping Courier Falken

Bounty hunting has renewed my interest in “revisiting Kryta”, and I enlisted the help of my friend N. Squirrel to investigate North Kryta Province with me. At first Shadow joined our party to help us defeat the White Mantle and Peacekeepers in this area. Then a man named Courier Falken suddenly appeared and ran ahead of us. I noticed his Shining Blade uniform and rushed to his side. In a matter of seconds we were in a battle. Since “courier” is in his name, it’s obvious that he must deliver news and goods to our allies.

Bounty Hunting: Insatiable Vakar

Adventurers across Tyria rejoiced when Princess Salma started rewarding players for eliminating her foes. When I checked the “most wanted list”, the Insatiable Vakar had a bounty on his head worth 500 gold and 10 War Supplies. Near Princess Salma, there are new collectors that will give you something nice if you give them some war supplies as well. This method of rewarding adventurers reminds me of the Zaishen quests, given in the Great Temple of Balthazar.

Bejunkan Pier

All of the students who graduate from Shing Jea Island arrive in the Marketplace via Kaineng Docks. However I am much more curious to explore where foreigners arrive when they reach Cantha for the first time. Tyrians and Elonans have been pouring in to help us with the wicked plague, and they begin their journey in Bejukan Pier.

Zen Daijun

Not too long ago, Zen Daijun was quiet and peaceful. People came here on pilgrimages seeking enlightenment. After the plague, a miasma covered this holy place and the tortured humanoids known as Afflicted took over. One of the students that I formed a bond with on the island: Yijo Tahn was stricken by the plague and I was forced to kill him. Although many bad things have happened to me since training to become an adventurer, at least I was able to clear the miasma with the help of Zunraa and restore some peace to Zen Daijun.

Haiju Lagoon

Morganna was very pleased helping me explore Jaya Bluffs, that she came with Solorian and myself for the next one. I can’t blame her because Shing Jea Island is so beautiful. As we entered Haiju Lagoon, our eyes were treated to a wonderful sight. The Haiju Lagoon is dotted with several small villages.

Revisiting Kryta (Part 6)

It has been awhile since I last checked on the Shining Blade camp, so I left the Temple of Ages again to pay the new recruits a visit. To my surprise, one of the Ebon Falcon forces: Lawrence Crafton accompanied me in The Black Curtain, on my way to Talmark Wilderness. He is an air elementalist, and unlike Headmaster Vhang I can actually tolerate him!

Revisiting Kryta (Part 5)

In an unexpected turn of events, Princess Salma along with her Shining Blade force have retaken Lion’s Arch. This is very exciting and I rushed to Kryta’s capital to visit her and see the new changes.

Upon arriving in Lion’s Arch, I noticed a new guard standing near the previously inaccessible gate that leads to a huge tower. Because of my status as an adventurer and supporter of Salma, they let me through the gate. A new flag hangs inside Salma’s court; a golden griffon with one paw raised, replacing the White Mantle’s symbol.

Jaya Bluffs

The entrance to Jaya Bluffs is tucked away in a corner of Seitun Harbor. Because of this, foreigners often miss this area (unless they are trying to enter Zen Daijun). Apparently word of my travels has reached people I’ve never met before. Morganna D. came across some writings I distributed on Tyria and sought me out. The thought of turning down more help didn’t enter my mind when I saw how excited she was to assist me. Along with Solorian, Morganna and I set out to explore Jaya Bluffs.

Saoshang Trail

Few people remember passing through Saoshang Trail because it lies between two major outposts: Shing Jea Monastery and Seitung Harbor. The only foes you will find here are mantids, which can be dealt with easily. Even though it is such a small stretch of land, if you stop to look around, you can catch a nice view. Solorian the ritualist is joining me once again to explore Shing Jea Island.

Panjiang Peninsula

Kaitan Village is located just outside of Tsumei Village, where Solorian and I departed to explore Panjiang Peninsula. Aside from a few kappas, there are few dangers to living in this village. The sunflowers grown here can sometimes be double the height of a man, and you can often find farm children running through them.

Kinya Province

Knowing that the exploration would not be very exhausting, I decided to wait in the outpost for several hours. Hearing that monks often meditated here I tried out meditation for myself. At the time I expected Solorian to tap me on the shoulder, I opened my eyes and found Akela D. in front of me and my expected friend beside him. I don’t like to take too many people with me when I explore Shing Jea because the limit on groups leaving the outpost. However I made an except because Ritualists are so versatile. Solorian decided to bind defensive spirits, and Akela D. would do so with angry spirits that attack our foes.

Seijun Woods is located just outside the Ran Musu Gardens outpost. Mantids can be found here, and just beyond the woods you can spot kappa.

Revisiting Kryta (Part 4)

During my patrols of Kryta, I often return back to Princess Salma to report my findings and listen to her advice. When war first broke out, everyone was on edge. As time passed, some adventurers became less worried about a potential war and went on with their lives. However Salma has reassured me that something will happen and it’s only a matter of time.

Minister Cho's Estate

Revisiting Minister Cho’s Estate after clearing it of Afflicted brings back painful memories. Solorian and I have both witnessed perfectly healthy people being overcome by a sinister disease and turning into monsters. It’s not the sort of thing you forget easily. If you are an adventurer, you have of course seen necromancers exploit corpses and summon forth undead minions. Turning into an Afflicted one happens while you’re still alive, not when your life ends. Poor Minister Cho was turned into one of these creatures when I was escorted to the estate with Master Togo and Yijo Tahn. Even though this is a tragedy, some people cannot stop gossiping about who will take over the estate.

Sunqua Vale

Revisiting Shing Jea brings back a lot of fond memories, and Sunqua Vale is no exception. My friend Solorian, a ritualist, offered to help me explore the area just as I was preparing to leave. I was reluctant at first, but he persisted and promised that he would not be a burden.

Everyone who shows promise as an adventurer has to meet their trainers in Sunqua Vale. Master Togo completely runs everything, choosing trainers and students alike. Not everyone I’ve met is crazy about their first trainer, but they deeply respect Master Togo. I for one, would not want to spend most of my time wandering the (dirty) streets of Kaineng City.

Monastery Overlook

Normally the Monastery Overlook is off limits to everyone, even native Canthans that have graduated from their studies on Shing Jea Island. However Instructor Ng owed me a favor and let visit a few areas inside while he was on a lunch break.

After finishing my exploration of Tyria, it feels good to be back home and to visit where I began training to become a ranger. Only the most talented (or richly funded) can hope to be accepted into Shing Jea Monastery. Unlike Tyria, in Canthan you can be taught the arts of the Ritualist, a mystical spellcaster that can bind ritual spirits and command them to attack enemies and protect allies. Although others prefer to learn the deadly arts of the Assassin, a quick and efficient killer who carries out murders under many circumstances: revenge, paid contracts, or personal gain. I’ve also heard of Paragons and Dervishes coming from Elona, but I will discuss it when I visit the Land of the Golden Sun. For now I am finally back home in the Empire of the Dragon!

Revisiting Kryta (Part 3)

Lately I have spent most of my time following up on tips the Shining Blade has given me in order to keep a close eye on the war in Kryta. Before the rise of this conflict I spent my days looking over my epic diary: A Tyrian Odyssey and fine tuning older passages. So even though I despise having to fight in another war, I do enjoy helping others as best I can.

Unfortunately the tip I received earlier today was not delivered soon enough, as I was too late to save poor Farmer Milton from High Inquisitor Toriimo. When I arrived on the scene his “trial” was already underway and just as I was in reach of the High Inquisitor they set Milton on fire. What fiends! To make the situation worse, it was decided that the destruction would not end with one man’s life. No, the entire village would burn down and those close to Farmer Milton (including the cowardly Layman Josef) were to be eliminated.
